PowerKit FAQ Print E-mail

When designing or specifying equipment for an electrical system on board, after ‘shopping around’, there appears to be an almost endless list of options and ways to achieve AC and DC power generation for marine or mobile applications.  Kuranda have the answers to make your life more simple. Just click on any of the questions below to reveal.

Kuranda UK offer one simple concept – to design and specify a full electrical system that will provide safe, managed power to meet your individual requirements.  The ‘Power Kit’ philosophy, developed by Kuranda is a methodical and engineered approach to ensuring the equipment offered will be capable of meeting and exceeding the user’s expectations and demands, while all components are selected and sized to be compatible with each other as well as being ideally suited to the way the system will be used.

Any equipment that you add to a system may have a ‘knock-on’ effect on other equipment and it is very important that all the components in the system will work effectively together.

Kuranda’s engineer puts together a proposal for the layout of the system that will meet your demands, after discussing any issues that may be appropriate.  Things can be changed quite easily at this stage, so either the system or the loads can be adapted as necessary.

Once the power requirements have been worked out, the ideal components are chosen, bearing in mind the nature of how they will be used eg. Continuous or intermittent use.  Kuranda are not ‘tied in’ to one specific manufacturer, therefore can select products that are the best quality and that best suit each individual system and application.  Some components may have features that are ideal for one particular application but not others.

Sourcing a package of equipment that includes components that have been carefully selected for compatibility offers the user complete peace of mind that the system will perform as expected.  Because Kuranda’s engineers have the experience to know and understand the effects one component in the system may have on another, any special technicalities and considerations are made at the design stage.

A complete list of components including items ranging from cables that have been made up to length, to a Kohler Generator combined heat and power generator with inverters, battery chargers, batteries, control panels and distribution units or any other equipment relevant to your particular system is produced.  Notes are included to advise on installation issues as necessary, along with the price for the completed package.

You, your electrician or Kuranda.  Kuranda offer detailed installation advice to ensure efficient and reliable performance of the system.  This advice will cover issues such as cabling, ventilation, accessibility for servicing, fixings and fittings.  Ask a representative for more information.

In addition to electrical power systems, the philosophy used for the “Power Kit” extends to all other products in our range.  Kuranda are specialists in other areas including heating, hot water, cooking appliances and bow thrusters.  This means that Kuranda can offer a full package of equipment for your fit-out that is completely tailored for your comfort, reliability and ease of use.  Using certain products, such as Wallas automatic diesel cooking equipment and Kabola heating equipment, complete with all the necessary installation accessories, it is easily possible to achieve full home comfort and controllability without the need for gas on board.
